OpenPolicy — What It Is and What It Will Be

OpenPolicy is a civic-tech platform designed to make Canadian laws, bills, and parliamentary activity accessible to every resident. It gathers legislation from federal and provincial governments, presents it in clean, understandable language, and gives people a space to learn, discuss, and engage with the political process. The platform already includes bill listings, AI-generated summaries, representative profiles, and public feedback tools across web, iOS, and Android.

Looking ahead, OpenPolicy is evolving into a comprehensive public-participation ecosystem. The future vision includes:

• Real-time updates on bills, votes, amendments, and committee work
• AI-powered analysis, comparisons, and plain-language explanations of legislation
• Interactive tools allowing residents to comment, vote, and share their perspectives on bills
• Dashboards for MPs and policymakers to understand public sentiment and compare legislative options
• A national hub for civic engagement, connecting citizens with all three layers of government — federal, provincial, and municipal
• Open APIs enabling developers, researchers, media, and civic organizations to build on top of Canada’s legislative data
• A non-profit foundation structure that supports transparency, education, and democratic participation

OpenPolicy aims to become the digital public square for Canadian lawmaking — a place where anyone can understand what government is doing, contribute ideas, and participate meaningfully in shaping the country’s future.
